New COVID-19 relief bill offers help for Tarleton students TSU Newsroom Included in the federal coronavirus relief package passed in December is more than $22 billion for higher education. For Tarleton State University, that means extra help for students financially impacted by COVID-19 and assistance with institutional expenses incurred because of the pandemic. The new relief package the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations (CRRSA) Act is part of the larger Consolidated Appropriations Act 2021. Individual university allocations will be announced later. “Tarleton students are resilient and focused on completing their education despite these unprecedented times and the challenges of the pandemic,” said Tarleton Chief Financial Officer Lori Beaty. “CRRSA funds will help ensure that those impacted by COVID-19 receive essential and timely assistance.” ....
Tarleton receives $1.5 million for nursing scholarships TSU Newsroom Retired Air Force Col. Charles Leigon decided years ago that he wanted his legacy to include helping Tarleton State University nursing students. In fact, he gifted the third-largest cash donation in university history. Final steps were taken in early December when Tarleton received $1.5 million from Col. Leigon’s estate to make that legacy a reality. This is in addition to property donations, valued around $500,000, made in concert with the 40th anniversary of Tarleton’s nursing program in 2016. “My father recognizes the need for more highly skilled nurses,” Russell Leigon said on the occasion of the initial bequest in 2016. “He believes the program at Tarleton offers some of the best education and training in the state. It’s the kind of win-win that does my father proud.” ....
Tarleton State University Rodeo gets new home From TSU Newsroom STEPHENVILLE Tarleton State University’s storied rodeo team has a new home on the Downunder Horsemanship Ranch in the heart of the “Cowboy Capital.” The announcement was made recently during a celebration for rodeo athletes following the school’s participation in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association National Finals Rodeo in Arlington from Dec. 3-12. Longtime Tarleton supporters Brad and Nancy Allen bought a portion of the iconic ranch just a stone’s throw from the university’s Stephenville campus this fall after world-renowned horse trainer Clinton Anderson switched his focus to training and showing performance horses in Arkansas. ....
Tarleton seals deal to acquire Bosque Crossing Apartments From TSU Newsroom STEPHENVILLE Tarleton State University last week finalized the purchase of the Bosque Crossing Apartments, within walking distance from the Stephenville campus across West Vanderbilt Street. Approved by The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents earlier this year, the 173-unit one- and two-bedroom complex with covered parking will increase housing options for graduate students as well as students with families, those who need to remain on campus throughout their academic experience, and those with specific medical needs. Funding $19 million plus closing costs comes from the issuance of bonds through the A&M System, to be repaid from Tarleton housing revenue. ....
Tarleton receives $750K to help Texas workers displaced by COVID-19 TSU Newsroom STEPHENVILLE A $750,000 grant from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board will help Tarleton State University boost workers displaced by COVID-19 and assist students who stopped short of completing their undergraduate degree. The Texas Reskilling Support Fund Grant Program stems from $175 million given the THECB from the Governor s Emergency Educational Relief Fund - originally part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act of 2020. Grant money for those who qualify will cover tuition and fees, from $500 to $2,500 per semester (spring, summer and fall 2021); most awards will be $500. Application fees will be waived for previous Tarleton students. ....
