HANSKA More than a dozen people attended a Hanska City Council meeting to discuss the Hanska Community Library at the Hanska Community Center Monday.
Mayor Daniel Vee said the purpose of the meeting was not to close the library but to try to get more people to use it.
“I’d like to see more people use it. It’s not something you want to lose,” Vee said.
“All of us want to keep the library. Closing it was never the intent,” said city councilor Mark Strom. ....

To the editor:
Yesterday we drove into New Ulm. It was a beautiful day, sunny bright sky, fluffy white clouds, the dew glistening on the fresh green grass, lots of nice rich black soil turned and ready for planting. Sheer joy and contentment to see all this.
The only blight? Cans, plastic bags, bags with junk in it from fast food places, other junk in ditches and blown into fields.
Folks who do this, PLEASE put a plastic bag in your car, throw your trash in it and discard when you get to your destination in the proper disposal area. It is so easy and so wise. If you are old enough to have a license to drive you are old enough to know this. ....

Is Nursing Board Discipline Getting More Aggressive?

Joe Flores, NP, JD, has been defending nurses against investigations by the Texas Board of Nursing for several years. Flores, a Corpus Christi attorney and part-time hospice care nurse practitioner, rarely turns away these clients. He feels it s important they have representation if they have a case.
But since the pandemic started, Flores has had to turn away many cases. Demand for his services is up, he says, as nurses are being investigated by the Board even as they struggle to perform their jobs with the added stress of the pandemic.
The nature of the complaints is also different: I have never had [board] reports regarding masks, gowns; this is new, this is particular to the pandemic, said Flores, who is now representing a dozen nurses facing potential discipline. They are overworked, understaffed. But, he added, patients and management just report them and the board opens cases against many of them as a nursing board did recently again ....
