Dedham Town Meeting: Yes to Manor, no to Board of Health revision

Dedham Town Meeting: Yes to Manor, no to Board of Health revision Mary Ellen Gambon, Correspondent DEDHAM The mood of Monday evening’s Dedham Town Meeting felt almost like a family reunion, as dozens of the 224 residents finally were able to exchange handshakes and hugs under a balmy sky after 15 months of enduring the COVID-19 pandemic. This spirit carried over into the policymaking decisions, as 17 of the 18 articles moved swiftly through passage with little to no discussion during the three-hour meeting, held at the Dedham High School football field. “When we are elected to take on the responsibility, we are entitled to advocate our position strongly and vibrantly,” said Town Moderator Dan Driscoll. “But at the end of the day, we’re here to solve problems. And that means coming to an agreement, trying as best we can to resolve differences.”

Dissatisfied with contract negotiations and bargaining committee, GWC-UAW student-workers vote to reject tentative agreement

Dissatisfied with contract negotiations and bargaining committee, GWC-UAW student-workers vote to reject tentative agreement Dissatisfied with contract negotiations and bargaining committee, GWC-UAW student-workers vote to reject tentative agreement Kathy Fang / Staff Photographer Student-workers say that the contract fell short on unit recognition; compensation; health care; and access to third-party, neutral arbitration for discrimination and harassment cases. By Talia Abrahamson | May 2, 2021, 11:05 PM The tentative agreement reached between Columbia and the Graduate Workers of Columbia–United Auto Workers’ bargaining committee failed to pass on April 30. Student-workers voted 1,093-970 with 63-percent participation to continue negotiating, a process that will likely require further mobilization throughout the summer and fall semesters.
