DANVILLE, Va. â Effective immediately, Danville Public Schools will be serving meals at no charge to children 18 and under.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has approved waivers for local school divisions and other federal meal program sponsors to implement the Summer Food Service Program to provide meals to children in the community free of charge starting June 21, 2021 through July 30, 2021.
The waivers support access to nutritious meals while minimizing exposure to COVID-19.Â
Meals are available to all children including those learning in-person or virtually and regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability.
Meals will be provided, on a first come, first served basis at the following times and locations:Â

MILLBROOK, Ala. (WSFA) - Millbrook police are searching for a suspect that left one person seriously injured late Monday.
Police say they responded to multiple reports of shots fired on Dan Drive around 11:20 p.m. They found one victim with a single gunshot wound in his upper torso. He was taken to Baptist South with serious to life-threatening injuries.
Police say the victim is currently listed in stable condition following surgery.
Chief P.K. Johnson said there is not a lot of information yet in this ongoing investigation.
MILLBROOK Police in Millbrook are investigating a shooting where a man was seriously injured and a nearby home with children inside was struck by stray rounds.
Officers were sent to the 90 block of Dan Drive about 11:20 p.m. Monday on a shots fired call, said Police Chief P.K. Johnson. They found the 23-year-old victim who had been shot once in the upper torso. He was taken to a Montgomery hospital with life threatening injuries and underwent surgery. He was listed in serious, but stable condition. No arrest had been made by Tuesday morning.
Officers found out a nearby home had been struck by stray rounds.
A Killeen woman was sentenced earlier this week after a drunken driving accident last year resulted in a woman being injured as well as property damage.
China Marie Prichett, 29, had pleaded guilty on Dec. 22, 2020, to a second-degree felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
During a remote hearing on Monday, Judge Paul LePak followed a plea agreement in the case and sentenced Prichett to a term of five years of deferred adjudication probation.
She will have to participate in a violence intervention program every year.
âIâve learned from my mistakes and Iâm trying to become a better person,â Prichett said to the judge during the hearing.
