DANVILLE, Va. â Effective immediately, Danville Public Schools will be serving meals at no charge to children 18 and under.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has approved waivers for local school divisions and other federal meal program sponsors to implement the Summer Food Service Program to provide meals to children in the community free of charge starting June 21, 2021 through July 30, 2021.
The waivers support access to nutritious meals while minimizing exposure to COVID-19.Â
Meals are available to all children including those learning in-person or virtually and regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability.
Meals will be provided, on a first come, first served basis at the following times and locations:Â

DANVILLE, Va. – Crews responded to a large fire at the Budget Inn on the Piney Forest Road at around 9 a.m. Monday.
The size of the blaze forced police and fire crews close Piney Forest from NorDan Shopping Center to Arnett Boulevard but the busy thoroughfare has since reopened.
According to investigators, the fire started in one room and spread to other units through the attic.
Those staying in the inn were evacuated with one person treated at the scene for minor injuries. Room 110 was destroyed and 20 others were damaged. There is no word yet on a cause. Photo Credits Nancy Burch, Danville Police Department
