Secret Lair: Black Is Magic, a new series of seven cards celebrating Black identity, expression and history. Proceeds from the sales will go to Black Girls CODE and will benefit its game design, digital art and game development programs. The Secret Lair Drop Series features specially curated cards which are only available for a limited time, including the recent Valentine’s Day Happy Little Gathering collection in November which featured paid homage to Bob Ross. For this latest Secret Lair series, Black illustrators were brought on to illustrate each of the cards, and the series reflects the diversity of their artistic sensibilities. The stories the cards tell are equally wide-ranging, and include Dani Pendergast’s “Kaya, Ghost Assassin,” featuring the first Black female planeswalker, and KNIIO’s “Teferi, Hero of Dominaria,” which celebrates Black fatherhood. ....
Magic: The Gathering Celebrates Black History Month With New Secret Lair Drop ✖ Magic: The Gatheringwill celebrate Black History Month with a new Secret Lair Drop called Black Is Magic. Set to go up for preorder on February 22nd, proceeds from the new set of alternate art Magic: The Gathering cards will support Black Girls CODE, and group dedicated to teaching girls of color to code, design video games, and pursue digital arts and trades. According to Wizards of the Coast, Black is Magic s goal is to support different expressions of Black identity in Magic: The Gathering. New Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair Celebrates Black History Month Black Is Magic, which, according to the company is intended to support “different expressions of Black identity,” is due to be available for pre-order beginning February 22nd and will be able to be purchased for a sizable period of one month. Proceeds (all or partial; the article isn’t clear) from sales of the bundle will go towards benefitting Black Girls CODE, a not-for-profit organization founded by Kimberly Bryant that focuses on providing technology education to African-American girls. Seven cards in total are included in the bundle and feature popular characters such as Teferi and Kaya, all of which – as is standard for Secret Lair products – are adorned with alternate art not available via other means. All of the creatures, Planeswalkers and sorceries have been illustrated by Black artists Ernanda Souza, Ejiwa Ebenebe, Hillary Wilson, Dani Pendergast, KNIIO and Thomas Zenteno, and you can ....
