County panel OKs contested liquor license

EDWARDSVILLE A controversial liquor license for a Rosewood Heights convenience store was approved by a split vote Monday by the Madison County’s Public Safety Committee.
An unrestricted Class B liquor license was OK’d for SSM Dairy Corporation, which operates The Farm Fresh at 740 E. Airline Drive, Rosewood Heights.
The license was approved 3-2, with committee member Heather Muller-Jones, R-Maryville, absent.
A motion to approve the license was made by Stacey Pace, R-Troy, and seconded by Judy Kuhn, R-Trenton. Both voted in favor of the license. Voting against the license were Bobby Ross, R-St. Jacob, and Nick Petrillo, D-Granite City.
911 contract with AT&T OK d by committee

EDWARDSVILLE The extension of a contract with AT&T to provide service for Madison County’s 911 system was approved by the Madison County Board’s Public Safety Committee at its Monday meeting.
The board also approved extending the service agreement to accommodate another dispatching station in the Glen Carbon Police Department.
Madison County 911 Director Dana Burris said the contract covers the hosting agreement for the county’s 911 system. The agreement expired in December 2020, and the new one-year agreement would be retroactive to that date.
Because of delays caused by legal challenges to the county’s 911 consolidation plan, the service contract had been subject to a number of extensions.

This is the fourth such payment since the payment system was begun in June 2019.
“It’s very important,” Madison County 911 Director Dana Burris said after the meeting. “It helps alleviate the financial burden on the municipalities. They’re paying the up-front cost for the 911 calls to be answered. ETSB pays for hardware.”
The Madison County Board’s Finance Committee, then the full board must approve the $798,837 payment.
The reimbursement had been discussed seriously since about 2018. Since the 911 system came on line local police departments with the 911 call centers, called Public Service Answering Points or PSAPs, have paid the personnel cost of the system, while Madison County 911 paid for equipment and training.
