Grice Named Freshman All-American By: Brian Hennessy CLEMSON, S.C. – Caden Grice was named a freshman All-American as a first baseman by Collegiate Baseball on Wednesday. The Greer, S.C. native hit .317 with 15 homers, a triple, nine doubles, 53 RBIs, 40 runs, a .618 slugging percentage, .427 on-base percentage and two steals in 51 games. Grice led the team in homers, RBIs, runs, slugging percentage and on-base percentage. He also totaled 14 strikeouts in 10.0 innings pitched over five appearances (three starts) on the mound. Grice’s selection marked the seventh year in a row a Tiger received freshman All-America honors, joining Reed Rohlman (2015), Seth Beer (2016), Logan Davidson (2017), Spencer Strider (2018), Davis Sharpe (2019) and Geoffrey Gilbert (2020). ....
Clemson, S.C.-Clemson rising senior Alexandra Swayne finished sixth among amateurs and fourth among active college players at the 2021 U.S. Women’s Open at The Olympic Club late Friday evening. Swayne missed the cut by four shots with a score of 152 for the first 36 holes, but was tied for sixth out of 31 amateurs. Maga Ganne, a high school golfer from New Jersey, was the top amateur after two rounds with a 138 score, just two shots off the lead. The only college players ahead of Swayne after 36 holes were Maja Stark of Oklahoma State (141), Gurleen Kauer of Baylor (144) and Rachel Heck of Stanford (147). Not only did Swayne finish tied for sixth among amateurs, she finished ahead of 34 professionals, including LPGA stars Cheyenne Woods, Nelly Korda, Charley Hull, Michelle Wie West, and Sung Hyan Park. CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson Volleyball Head Coach Jackie Simpson-Kirr announced the hiring of Taylor Unroe as the program’s Associate Head Coach on Friday. Unroe, who was a standout libero at the University of Florida, brings a wealth of coaching experience after stints at Memphis, Mississippi State, High Point and George Mason.
