After several years of discussing and debating what to do about a sagging borough building roof, Saxton Borough Council announced this week that two bids to replace the roof have been received. Council President Lester Meck told members that two separate contractors came to the borough and inspected the body of the roof, which covers the borough office and space once occupied by the Broad Top Senior Citizens Center that eventually moved out of the building. Meck did not wish to publicly disclose the name of the bidders or the bid amounts due to a possible misunderstanding on the part of one of the bidders as to the scope of the entire project. ....
While the Hopewell food bank helps out hundreds of Broad Top area residents each month, the food bank itself is in need of help. Center for Community Action (CCA) employment and training director Chris Gresko told the Bulletin the food bank is in desperate need of volunteer help from the public. Help is not only needed to distribute food items to food bank clients, but also to help unload it the day before distribution. Due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions and because many of its volunteers are getting older, Gresko said the food bank is in kind of dire straits of its own. ....
Saxton Borough Council on Monday evening learned details of gLeaf Medical Cannibisâ expansion plans into the coming year. The $40 million expansion project is expected to be completed near the end of 2021 more than triple the size of its workforce from the current 125 employees to 525 employees. Making and participating in a power point presentation was gLeaf Medical CEO Phil Goldberg, vice president of sales Steve Burton and project manager Alan Mountain. Goldberg said the purpose of the visit was to answer questions and update council on the companyâs status and to inform them where and how the company will be expanding in the future. ....
