The Department of Public Health announced a TikTok contest to encourage young people to get vaccinated before the start of the school year. The contest is for people ages 13 to 29. To participate, contestants should submit a TikTok video showing themselves getting vaccinated or include a creative message explaining, “This is why I got vaccinated.” All videos must tag @alcovidvaccine, #getvaccinatedAL and #ADPH. Winners will be determined based on creativity, originality and popularity measured by the numbers of likes and shares. The videos should be submitted by Aug. 6. Advertising professionals and department staff will select four winners who will each receive a $250 Visa gift card. Winners will be announced Aug. ....

The North Carolina Zoo has been bursting with people and energy lately. Admissions shot up from 72,877 in all of 2020 to 217,327 in just the first few months of 2021. With vaccinations levels going up, the Zoo has gotten rid of capacity restrictions, allowing visitors to come in without a reservation. However, staffing issues have prevented the Zoo from being able to open all of their exhibits. Like just about every other business out there, we re having difficulty finding applicants. We recently hosted a job fair, says Diane Villa, director of Communications & Marketing at the NC Zoo, We had 20 people turn out for dozens and dozens of open positions, so we re continuing to plug away with that. We re partnering where we can with places like Goodwill and Salvation Army who also hold job fairs, and we re continuing to advertise locally. ....
ASHEBORO - In mid-March, the North Carolina Zoo is releasing a fun, new way of getting around the zoo called Rydables, which are electric scooters with stuffed animal exteriors shaped like jaguars, tigers, and more. Rydables will cost $20 per hour and $3.25 for every additional ten minutes. The payment system is entirely digital and contactless to encourage social distancing. The new Rydables can fit one adult and one child, and each unit is geofenced to prevent Rydables from going out of bounds. Rydables are also outfitted for people with disabilities and are ADA-compliant. This new feature will be released in hopes of earning the zoo more revenue amidst its worst year on record, where attendance for the fiscal year dipped to 350,039, creating a $4.5 million deficit. ....
