Stage 2 LRT timelines coming by end of year, councillors told


Transportation manager John Manconi is now telling them to expect a wholesome and an accurate update  by the end of 2021. Manconi will have retired by then.
Manconi said the delay will give the city time to assess what the contractors  SNC-Lavalin on the north-south line and Kiewit-Vinci on the east-west expansion  accomplish during the construction season, their busiest time.
Where do they land with construction? It s a big season, great weather, and taking full advantage of the summer and into the fall, Manconi told reporters after a brief transit commission meeting Wednesday.
Ground conditions at Bowesville station will have to be improved before the platforms are built, rail director Michael Morgan said this week.(City of Ottawa) ....

Parks closed early under new city policy

Only three city councillors have asked that parks in their wards close early under a new policy aimed at preventing large gatherings during the provincial stay-at-home order, according to a poll of council members conducted by this newspaper.
Coun. Jan Harder has ordered all parks in her Barrhaven ward to close at 9 p.m., while Carol Anne Meehan has requested the same in her neighbouring ward of Gloucester-South Nepean, their offices and city staff confirmed. Meanwhile, Eli El-Chantiry has only requested that Sheila McKee Park in his West Carleton-March ward close early.

Ottawa police union demands "transparency" on abrupt departure of CAO

Ottawa Police Association president Matt Skof has called on the police services board to make public the reasons behind the abrupt departure of a senior executive.
Earlier this month, the board voted unanimously to remove Chief Administrative Officer Jeff Letourneau from his $242,000-a-year job as the top civilian at the police service. It’s not known if Letourneau resigned or was fired.
