DEVILS LAKE JOURNAL SPECIAL FEATURE NORTH DAKOTA– Tim Gienger, Clinical Director at Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch, received the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Patriot Award recently for the extraordinary support he provides his employee Kyle Schmidt, Captain, North Dakota Army National Guard. “The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees who have answered their nation’s call to serve,” said ESGR State Chair, Mr. Delton Steele.  “Supportive supervisors are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units.”

Volunteers will drop off orange bags at hundreds of homes from Friday through Tuesday, April 9-13, for people to fill with household and clothing items and return May 1. The drive will benefit the following local nonprofit organizations: Community Violence Intervention Center, Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch, Grand Forks Salvation Army, Journey Home Animal Rescue, Northlands Rescue Mission, Project Dignity, Red River Valley Community Action, St. Joseph’s Social Care and The Arc, Upper Valley.

Affordable virtual training for professionals who work with children and families Heather Steffl BISMARCK, N.D. – Behavioral health, child welfare, and other professionals who work with children and families to strengthen, stabilize and empower families to prevent the out-of-home placement of children will be gathering virtually at the 2021 North Dakota Family-Based Services Association (NDFBSA) conference March 9-11 and 23-25.  Presenters will include local, regional and national experts, including behavior management expert and best-selling author of “Breaking the Bullying Circle,” Ron Shuali. Shuali will lead a session on March 24 about the different ways people miscommunicate and ways to be more empowered in the classroom and at home using behavior management strategies, self-regulation and general well-being practices. He will also lead a second session titled, “Up the Rabbit Hole: Escaping the Matrix of Your Mind,” that explores how and why people can be stuck in
