Phoenix chef makes cooking easier and more enjoyable for kids
FOX 10 s Danielle Miller reports.
PHOENIX - Kids can be picky eaters, making dinnertime difficult for parents.
Now, a well-known Valley chef is hoping to inspire parents and educate them on how to create healthier households - with the kids being fully onboard.
Chef Aaron Chamberlin of Taco Chelo has been cooking and feeding people for dozens of years at many of his popular restaurants around the Valley.
However, his own kitchen is where the food matters most. His sous chefs: 6-year-old Arturo, 4-year-old Shaffer and 1-year-old Charlie.
The kids all started cooking at the age of one.

“I was never the weed dude,” says Aaron Chamberlin, CEO of Good Things Coming, a new line of cannabis-infused edibles. “I wasn’t sitting around smoking pot all day. But I saw how legalized marijuana was changing the world. I saw the limitations of the restaurant business, and I saw how cannabis could help people with health issues.”
Chamberlin is the chef behind several renowned local restaurants: St. Francis, Phoenix Public Market Cafe, Taco Chelo. But lately, he s taken some time away from the restaurant business. He announced about six months ago that Phoenix Public Market would close a blessing in disguise, he says. “That business hadn’t done well financially for a year,” Chamberlin says. “My landlord had the building under contract and wanted me to leave. It was serendipity.”
There’s not a lot of other Japanese food we can get around here that isn t just sushi, says Olguin.
The menu will include charcoal-grilled yakitori and a raw bar with sashimi. The owners will collaborate with Deez Buns, the north-Tempe restaurant and team that s also behind the kitchen at Killer Whale Sex Club, along with other chefs from around the Valley.

As for alcohol, the drink menu will list predominantly beer, wine, and sake, most of which will be on tap. Although Killer Whale is known for its extensive cocktail list with extravagant presentations, Olguin says the cocktails at Sabertooth will be a more straightforward, what you see is what you get type of thing. Olguin and Stuart are looking to include Japanese whiskeys and some non-familiar flavors and ingredients that aren t often seen around metro Phoenix.
