JOHOR BARU, May 19 The Johor state government should immediately obtain additional Covid-19 vaccines from the federal government to meet the urgent demand for 2.9 million doses in the state, said Johor Opposition leader Aminolhuda Hassan.
He said Johor can emulate the steps taken by the Sarawak and Selangor state governments which intend to procure the vaccines on their own instead of fully depending on the federal government. ....

Agencies collaborate for youth development

THE state government is collaborating with 20 government agencies and government-linked companies for youth development initiatives.
Johor tourism, youth and sports committee chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said over 100 initiatives were expected to be rolled out by this month.
“The state recently organised a video conference with relevant agencies where they shared their initiatives and programmes with Johor youth.
“Mentri Besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad had announced RM50mil for youth initiatives which is by far the biggest ever allocation, ” he said when
contacted.Onn Hafiz said there were plans to build a Tunku Mahkota Ismail Youth Centre in each district.
“The facilities will include meeting points, indoor and outdoor sports, wall-climbing, parkour space, jogging track, amphitheatre and many others. ....

Kampung Pasir Gudang Baru, located about 20km from Johor Baru city centre, is a small village that contributes to more than 90% of the country’s mussel production.
Established in the 1980s, the village back then occupied 12ha of land and had a population of 120 people.
Today, it is home to more than 1,500 people from 200 families, with 40 of the families involved in traditional coastal fishing and mussel breeding activities near Straits of Johor and Sungai Masai.
