After beginning her career playing in bands in her hometown of San Diego, California during the mid- 80s, she released her first solo album, Another Thousand Miles, in 2000. Her sixth LP, 2014 s Savannah Road, was inspired by reading Gregg Allman s 2012 memoir, and she teamed up with frequent collaborator Will Kimbrough for the duet album Mockingbird Soul in 2017. Born in Michigan and raised in Point Loma, San Diego, DeMeyer grew up singing in gospel choirs. She graduated from Point Loma High School, then attended the University of San Diego, where she earned a degree in international relations in 1986. This annual award is presented to a member of the Canadian lacrosse community in recognition ofoutstanding contributions of sportsmanship and leadership in the game of lacrosse and to the physical and mental development of young Canadians through unselfish dedication as a volunteer. Dean McLeod’s devotion, work ethic, focus and commitment to Ontario Junior “A” lacrosse and to lacrosse in his home town of Brampton have been exemplary. It should be no surprise he has been awarded the Lester Pearson Award. If anything, it could be viewed as somewhat puzzling it took so long for him to be given this recognition. ....
TCN-MVCTC FFA hosts banquet Submitted by TCN-MVCTC FFA LEWISBURG Tri-County North – MVCTC FAA hosted its 93rd Annual Banquet on Thursday, March 25, as 50 students, supporters, and guests were in attendance. Kylie Cooper, Zane Owens, Brianna Wagoner, Erin Kring, Joey Harris and Emily Blunk were all recognized as the top six fruit sellers. Wagoner and Breanna Callahan were named the top Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources students, showing a high level of knowledge in the AFNR class, while Chryseis Kazee was named the top Animal and Plant student. Samantha Nuse was awarded the Star Senior in Ag Business as the student who has shown the highest level of knowledge in the Ag Business class, while Wagoner was named the Star Greenhand for going above and beyond in the FFA. ....
Print Singer and band leader Laura Jane Willcock, 58, is the leader of the seven-piece San Diego soul, funk and rock revue The Tighten Ups, which she co-founded in 2007. Their latest release is the 2019 concert video, “Live at the Belly Up.” The Tighten Ups played our last show at Old Town Blues Club in Temecula on March 12, 2020. The band sounded fantastic for three sets of rock and soul, with Joey Harris on guitar, Meri Claire on trombone, Rene Woolley on drums and Neil McKenzie on trumpet, with valued subs Jonny Viau sitting in on sax for Topher Williams and Jef Kmak on bass for Gerry Wasson. ....
