Families who opted into the 45/15 schedule sent their little ones back to class Monday morning. Some wore their masks, and many went without them. It s a great opportunity to provide families with an option with their calendar. A balanced calendar, as I mentioned before, is just a calendar in which no break is longer than eight weeks, Woodson Kindergarten Center Principal Jill Rollie said. Students on this schedule are returning after summer break - their longest break of the year. They had about five weeks off before heading back to class Monday. ....

Dr. Page s first day as superintendent for Austin Public Schools was July 1, and it was a kind of homecoming for the Austin native. I attended Sumner Elementary and middle school at Ellis and then graduated from Austin High School, Page said. He said a lot has changed since his days as a student. I think the demographics are different in not only the schools but in the community. Structurally, things are different too. Walking back into the high school, it s undergone amazing transformations, Page said. ....
