Man poses as cop, robs 19-year-old | Ludhiana News

LUDHIANA: A man impersonating as an assistant sub-inspector robbed a 19-year-old of Rs 20,000, a cellphone and a debit card in Daresi on Tuesday. Later, the miscreant also withdrew Rs 49,000 using the debit card.
Anil Kumar, a resident of Rahon Road, said in his police complaint, “My uncle had given me his debit card to withdraw cash. From an ATM kiosk near Basti Jodhewal Chowk, I withdrew Rs 20,000. When I was on the way home, a man stopped me and claimed he was a cop. He took me to a lane opposite Salem Tabri police station and brandished a sharp-edged weapon. After threatening me, he robbed me of Rs 20,000, a cellphone and the debit card and fled.” ....

Four dead, 438 test positive in Ludhiana

After seven months, once again the district saw 438 positive cases in a day. It was on September 15 last year that the same number of people had tested positive and it was the highest single-day spike of 2020.
Four patients lost their lives today.
Those who tested positive today include two healthcare workers, two cops, two pre-operative cases and six teachers. Teachers who tested positive are one from GSSS, Jandali, two from Arya College, one from GSSS, Ayali Khurd, one from Partap Public School, Hambran Road, and one from Government School, Dashmesh Nagar.
Three women and one man of Rajgarh, Basant Avenue, Fatehgarh Mohalla and Jassowal lost their lives today. ....

31 FIRs filed, 57 challans issued against encroachers | Ludhiana News

Ludhiana: The police have lodged 31 FIRs and issued 57 challans against the encroachers under the ongoing anti-encroachment drive in the city. Most of these FIRs lodged on Tuesday are against street vendors, followed by commuters, who had parked their vehicles on the road, and the shopkeepers for keeping their commodities outside their shops.
Under the drive, the police, along with the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation officials, managed to remove encroachments from several areas, including College Road, Ferozepur Road, Clock Tower Area, Chaura Bazar and nearby markets, Salem Tabri, Chandigarh Road and Basti Jodhewal Chowk. The officials also got the vendors’ carts removed from the roads. ....
