Annual Paul E Johnson Soiree slated for June 6 Staff report PORTSMOUTH Main Street Portsmouth is inviting the community to the 11th Annual Paul E Johnson Soiree, hosted by The Lofts Coffee Company and Roastery this June 6, alongside organizing partner and founder Kevin W Johnson. The event is the largest fundraiser the Main Street Beautification Committee has each year, filling the gaps in city and private donor funding, which allows them to care for downtown parks, public spaces, and many beautification efforts from hanging baskets to flower urns, as well as maintenance efforts including grass cutting and watering contracts. The soiree is typically in September to commemorate the life of Portsmouth native and MSP founding board member Paul E Johnson. Partner Kevin W Johnson served on the program with him as inaugural board members, shaping what would become the Main Street program we have today. Newport Daily News NEWPORT Norelys Hunter, a Rogers High School senior with more than 200 hours of volunteer work under her belt, was selected by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Newport County as its Youth of the Year. “(Boys & Girls Club) is a really good support system for kids,” said Hunter, who now will compete for statewide recognition. “Everybody deserves a friend, and I think that the Boys & Girls Club is a really good friend for anybody.” The Youth of the Year program is conducted by every Boys & Girls Club across the country, recognizing a member who has been with the club for several years and embodies the core tenets of character, leadership, healthy living and academic readiness, said Joseph Pratt, executive director and CEO of the local club. ....

(SoCalGas) today announced the company will provide $200,000 in funding for Zero Emission Industries’ (ZEI), formerly Golden Gate Zero Emission Marine, hydrogen fuel cell technology project that aims to develop a zero emissions solution for small commercial marine vessels by modifying a commercial boat with a hydrogen fuel cell in place of a combustion engine. Once brought to market, the fuel cell technology could vastly reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and air pollution from thousands of small commercial boats throughout California including patrol, fishing, fire, rescue, ferry, taxi, recreational and other vessels. ....
