1/13/2021 Athletic center, concession stand, among goals LINCOLN – Among the projects Lincoln school leaders are looking to invest in are a new student athletic center and concession stand, relocating the school district’s administrative offices, selling Fairlawn School and a potential addition to Lonsdale Elementary. There are stipulations involved with each, but school officials doubled-down on their commitment to the list of goals during Monday’s School Committee meeting. The ultimate objective, they said, is to complete the projects with little to no additional taxpayer funding. The town is expecting to have about $6.7 million in reimbursement funds available to spend as a result of the Lincoln High School renovation/construction project. Bond premium money is being earmarked for each of the following projects, except for the concession stand and Fairlawn School sale. ....

(Breeze photo by Nicole Dotzenrod) LINCOLN – A decision to paint over 40 glass window panes at Lonsdale Elementary School in an effort to prevent sun glare in certain classrooms has Lincoln officials scratching their heads. In a statement to The Breeze, Goho said he’s humbled by the support of his colleagues and honored to lead “such a cohesive and student-centered committee of professionals.” “Lincoln is very fortunate to have one of the best educational systems in the state. We have many exciting capital and educational projects on the horizon, including completion of the high school renovation, the building of a new student athletic center, a new administration building, and upgrades to our elementary schools,” he continued. “With a highly competent central office, building administrators, teachers and support staff, we are very excite ....

The free event replaced Pumpkins in the Park, and was one of very few events to be held in town during this pandemic year. (Breeze File photo by Charles Lawrence) NORTH PROVIDENCE – First it was late spring, then maybe summer, then we heard fall might see better times. Surely, Christmas wouldn’t be impacted? But 2020 is ending as some feared when COVID-19 first emerged in Rhode Island 10 months ago, with even favorite holidays thrown out of whack as the virus came back in waves. ....
NORTH PROVIDENCE – North Providence schools are back to virtual learning this week, shutting down all in-person learning across the district through the holidays. Distance learning started up again on Monday district-wide after North Providence experienced an increasingly high number of teachers and students out on quarantine because they had been exposed to COVID-19. Last Thursday was also a distance learning day for students after the state announced that school districts may shift to distance learning on what would traditionally be considered a snow day. “Because we started the school year so late, the ability to use distance learning for snow days is very valuable to us because we cannot go beyond July 1,” Supt. Joseph Goho said. ....
