A State High Court sitting in Dutse, Jigawa State has sentenced a 27-year man, Suleiman Ahmed, to life imprisonment, after convicting him of rape.
The court also sentenced another person it found guilty of the same crime to 21 years in jail as it equally discharged and acquitted another suspect.
In a statement signed and made available to Vanguard in Dutse by the Public Relations Officer of the state Ministry of Justice, Mrs. Zainab Baba Santali said, Ahmed, of Lutai village in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area of the state, committed the crime on March 15 last year in Babaldu town. ....

A State High Court sitting in Dutse, Jigawa State has sentenced a 27-year-man, Suleiman Ahmed, to life imprisonment, after convicting him of rape.
The court also sentenced another person it found guilty of the same crime to 21 years in jail as it equally discharged and acquitted another suspect.

A State High Court in Dutse, Jigawa State on Monday sentenced a 27-year old man, Suleiman Ahmed, to life imprisonment, after convicting him of rape.
The court also sentenced another person it found guilty of the same crime to 21 years in jail and acquitted another suspect.
The spokesperson of the state Ministry of Justice, Zainab Baba-Santali, disclosed these in a statement on Tuesday.
She said Mr Ahmed, of Lutai village in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area of the state, committed the crime on March 15 last year in Babaldu town. ....

Jigawa man gets option of N20,000 fine, 20 strokes of cane for defaming governor

The Chief Magistrate Court 1 sitting in Dutse presided over by Batula Dauda has sentenced one Sabi’u Ibrahim Chamo to six months in correctional center or options of N20,000 fine and 20 stroke of cane for defamating Jigawa State Governor, Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar.
In a statement by the Public Relations Officer, ministry of Justice, Mrs. Zainab Baba Santali, the fact of the case was that Sabi’u Chamo had made a post on his Facebook page and made a malicious statement about the state governor.
During the trial, after the first information was read to the defendant, he pleaded guilty to the offence and the court sentenced him to six (6) months in correctional center or Twenty thousand Naira fine (20,000) and 20 strokes of cane to serve as deterrent to others. ....

A high court in Jigawa State on Tuesday sentenced Jamilu Harisu to death by hanging after he was found guilty of killing his father.
According to statement from the state Ministry of Justice, Mr Harisu on July 22, 2019, attacked his father, Harisu Bako, 70, while he was working on his farm.
The convict injured his father on his head with a hoe. The injury led to his death, the statement said.
The statement added that the persecution team led by Jigawa State Attorney General, Musa Aliyu, presented four witnesses to the court, and also tendered a confessional statement and a medical report. ....
