JAMESTOWN, N.D. (Jamestown Kiwanis) – With the help of the community, Jamestown Kiwanis has packaged more than 1 million meals for hungry families, rang bells for Salvation Army, supported student scholarships and delivered gifts to families in need at Christmas.
“Kids need Kiwanis, especially after the year of our pandemic,” said Jamestown Kiwanis President Searle Swedlund. “And Kiwanis needs the community’s support.”
To help finance its service projects, Jamestown Kiwanis holds its Pancake Day fundraiser once a year. The club raised about $9,500 in 2019. The club canceled Pancake Day in 2020 due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). ....

Salvation Army surpasses goal in kettle campaign

The Jamestown Salvation Army announced that it surpassed its goal in its annual fundraising campaign.
The Salvation Army raised more than $192,000 through its red Kettle Campaign, mailed-in donations and online support, exceeding its goal of $151,000.
Maj. Judy Lowder, corps officer, said the Salvation Army expected a possible 50% decrease in donations as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
“We are thankful to all those who supported the campaign and for enabling The Salvation Army to continue its mission of meeting human needs,” she said.
A friendly competition between participating service clubs helped raise funds, she said. ....
