LOGAN â Since the end of March, city police in Logan say their department has recovered approximately 208 grams of controlled substances that include fentanyl, methamphetamine, heroin, crack, ecstasy and marijuana. According to police, almost all of the recovered controlled substances were laced with fentanyl. Twelve arrests related to drug activity have been made, and multiple cases are under investigation. Patrolmen A. Bias and M. Hall conducted a knock and talk, which yielded approximately 80 grams of fentanyl. Patrolmen C.L. Carter and R. Allen arrested two individuals after a pursuit. The suspects reportedly had approximately 67 grams of methamphetamine, crack, ecstasy and marijuana in their possession and are also facing gun charges. ....
April 24, 2021 The Century Town Council will try again next month to vote on raising the franchise fee they charge Gulf Power. On April 19, the council was set to hold a required public hearing on the ordinance, but they did not have a required quorum after three members missed the meeting. Council members James Smith, Jr. Leonard White and Sandra McMurray-Jackson were not present. The public hearing will now be held during the 7 p.m. May 3 council meeting to raise the Gulf Power franchise fee, an an increase for Escambia River Electric is also under consideration. In 1994, the franchise fees for both utilities were increased from 3% to 5%, and now the council is raising the fee to 6%. ....
April 20, 2021 The Century Town Council was unable to conduct business Monday night after three members skipped their meeting. Council president Luis Gomez, Jr. and Seat One member Dynette Lewis were present Monday night, but three members must be present for a quorum. James Smith, Jr. Leonard White and Sandra McMurray-Jackson were not present. No reason was given for their absences, but NorthEscambia.com later learned that Jackson was ill. “I apologize when the public and the press has more initiative to come out then the council,” Gomez said. “There’s nothing I can do. Everybody is an adult, you know. I can’t make anybody do anything, but I am going to address it.” ....
SOUTH BEND â Police have arrested a man accused of being involved in a Sunday shooting in the Keller Park neighborhood. James Smith Jr., 23, was booked into the St. Joseph County Jail on Sunday and faces four charges for his alleged involvement in the incident that left one person injured. Smith is charged with criminal recklessness, battery by means of a deadly weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, all felonies, and dealing marijuana, a misdemeanor. According to court documents, three boys, listed as Roger, Alex and Jared in court documents, were at Corbyâs Irish Pub on Sunday morning when Smith allegedly hit one of them in the face and got into his van, which his girlfriend was driving, and left. ....
