ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. Lawyers delivered their opening arguments Tuesday in the corruption trial of former Las Vegas mayor Tonita Gurule-Giron.
Gurule-Giron faces six criminal charges which include bid rigging, offering and receiving bribes, and general abuse of power while in office.
“The defendant, while the mayor of Las Vegas, abused her position and power and with information provided to her,” said Andrew Coffing, assistant attorney general. “She unlawfully influenced the bidding process in favor of her contractor boyfriend Marvin Salazar. The state intends to show you that she used the information she gained in her position to provide to him contracts, and she received a financial benefit in the form of gifts in kind.”
CHAPMANVILLE â Chapmanville Police charged a man and woman from Lake with possession of fentanyl and conspiracy following a traffic stop.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Logan County Magistrate Court, the incident occurred at about 12:45 a.m. Sunday, May 2, while Cpl. E.C. Ferrell and Patrolman M.A. Honeycutt were on routine patrol on Main Street in Chapmanville. According to the complaint, the two pulled over a red car traveling toward Wendyâs for obstructing driverâs view.
Police say they noticed a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle as they approached it and made contact with the driver, Robin Danielle Abbott, 40, and its passenger, Millard Allen Abbott, 35, both of Lake. The two reportedly gave consent to police to search the car.
LOGAN â Since the end of March, city police in Logan say their department has recovered approximately 208 grams of controlled substances that include fentanyl, methamphetamine, heroin, crack, ecstasy and marijuana.
According to police, almost all of the recovered controlled substances were laced with fentanyl. Twelve arrests related to drug activity have been made, and multiple cases are under investigation.
Patrolmen A. Bias and M. Hall conducted a knock and talk, which yielded approximately 80 grams of fentanyl. Patrolmen C.L. Carter and R. Allen arrested two individuals after a pursuit. The suspects reportedly had approximately 67 grams of methamphetamine, crack, ecstasy and marijuana in their possession and are also facing gun charges.

Kolina May Reiter passed away gently on April 27, 2021 in the company of family and loved ones. She was 82.
Born Kolina May Nevel on May 22, 1938 to May and John Barice Nevel on Shelter Island, she was a true “harelegger.” Her life on Shelter island is irreplaceable, her family said.
Kolina’s mother’s and father’s families were from Cornwall, Canada and immigrated to Long Island in the early 1900s, and followed May’s sisters, Jessie Price and Margaret Oliver, to Shelter Island, where they raised their family of Kolina and her brothers, Malvin (Mal) and Barice.
