OPINION: There isn’t much left of Jim Bolger’s legacy. His reforms in introducing market discipline in health and education didn’t survive Helen Clark’s administration, and although he did oversee the sale of some State Owned Enterprises this was timid compared to what Roger Douglas and Richard Prebble had accomplished. Bolger left us with MMP, so thanks for that, Jim. He also began the current round of Treaty of Waitangi settlements, although some commentators feel that Sir Doug Graham deserves the credit for this development. Credit Andy Robins / WMUK Governor Gretchen Whitmer has appointed two new members of Western Michigan University s Board of Trustees. The university says the new trustees are Kurtis Trevan of Grand Rapids, a WMU graduate who is the CEO of Gun Lake Investments, and A. Alan Turfe of Northville, who is chairman of the board of DocShop Pro. The two new trustees replace former WMU Board Chairman James Bolger and former trustee David Behan, who s terms expire December 31, 2020. Trevan and Turfe s appointments must be confirmed by the State Senate. In a news release, WMU President Edward Montgomery said, We are pleased to welcome Trustees Trevan and Turfe. look forward to the expertise and insights they will add to the board as we work together to advance our University and its goals to help students pursue their goals, maintain well-being and prepare for meaningful careers. ....
Native American Named to WMU Board of Trustees Kurtis Trevan, a member of the Potawatomi tribe, has been awarded an important position at Western Michigan University by Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer. It s good to be home. Kurtis Trevan graduated from from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, and now he will be back at WMU. After his time in Kalamazoo, Trevan went on to earn a Master of Science in Finance from Walsh College, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan before returning to Southwest Michigan and serving as the treasurer for the Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Pottawatomi Indians Tribal Council. A citizen of the tribe, Trevan was an important member of the Gun Lake Casino Board of Directors. Most recently, he is co-founded Gun Lake Investments and is its chief executive officer. ....
