Norwood-Norfolk school approves capital project change

NORWOOD The Norwood-Norfolk Central School Board of Education approved a change order to its capital project.
NNCS Superintendent Jamie Cruikshank requested the school board to approve a change order for the school’s capital project.
“We plan out a project months, years in advance … we don’t always know what’s hidden behind a wall or when they get into something,” Cruikshank said. “So a change order can develop from an unknown circumstance . it also could arise from a request of the district.”
Cruikshank is allowed to approve change orders up to $20,000. Anything over that amount needs approval from the school board. ....

NORWOOD The entire Norwood-Norfolk Central School (NNCS) community has been honored with the High Flyer Award.
“The purpose of the recognition is to honor an employee who went above and beyond for that year, went the extra mile,” said NNCS Superintendent Jamie Cruikshank said.
The High Flyer Award started in 2008. Starting next year there will be a nomination process prior to the award presentation. There have been a dozen employees recognized since the inception of the award. ....

Norwood-Norfolk school's $24.8M budget increases spending but includes no increase in tax levy

NORWOOD Norwood-Norfolk Central School’s $24.8M 2021-22 budget increases spending by 1.06% but includes no increase in the tax levy for the fourth consecutive year.
NNCS Superintendent Jamie Cruikshank said his district is slated to receive over a half million dollars more in state aid and hopes to restore several positions that were cut in past budgets.
The budget this year is projected to be $24,834,943, compared to $24,574,114 last year. The tax levy last year was $6,534,756, and this year it remains the same.
“This will be the fourth year in a row we are looking for a 0% increase,” Cruikshank said adding that tax levy has remained the same since the 2018-19 school year. ....

Norwood-Norfolk school board voting on pandemic response plan next month

NORWOOD The Norwood-Norfolk Central School Board of Education will vote next month on the district Pandemic Response Plan.
Much of the work for the plan was done by BOCES as they provided a framework for local schools to use, which could then be tailored by each district to meet their needs.
“When you think about it, in five year, hopefully we don’t go through a pandemic again for a while, but say in five years if we happen to go through a pandemic … many of the administration in the North Country or New York State potentially could be retired,” NNCS Superintendent Jamie Cruikshank said. “And so a lot of that historical knowledge could be, could be lost.” ....
