Jan 12, 2021 7:47 AM The next step to develop housing on Cameron Way in Yorkton has been taken. Mayor Mitch Hippsley states that there is a need for low to moderate cost housing in the city. If fully approved, 27 condos will be constructed. Meantime, the first Civic Recognition Award was handed out at Yorkton city council. Jason Boyda took the award in the adult category, as he was recognized for his work as a teacher, and as a coach for basketball and football. ....
“In the city of Yorkton there are so many outstanding citizens that give back to the community, and I’ve just been fortunate to be one who has been recognized. It means a lot to me, I feel very honored and privileged to receive the award.” Best known for football and basketball, Boyda will coach wherever he can and said it’s part of his goal to give back wherever he’s able. “[Sport] has given so much to my family and myself. It’s my small part of giving back, that’s what we’ve preached to our football players, to our basketball players, to our athletes. Once your playing career is done, give back to the community that has given so much to you, and pay it forward.” ....

Mayor Mitch Hippsley states the council decided to defer the payments instead. Also last night, Council approved a water and sewer rate increase, and named the Civic Recognition Award winners: Jason Boyda was the adult award winner, Katelyn Anderson won the youth category, and the Farming for Health organization took home the group honors. ....
In making the announcement Jessica Matsalla City Clerk, with the City provided a brief bio on the recipients. Jason Boyda, a teacher at Yorkdale school, has been a resident of Yorkton for the past 11 years, and has been “all-in” with the community since he moved here. He is a dedicated coach for sports (for all levels), mainly football and basketball. Jason is known to go the extra mile to run extra practices, and additional training to help any athlete who desires to improve, and will do what is in his power to help them excel. Jason also provides opportunities to all ages of athletes that may not be otherwise offered, such as taking teams to out of city and even across the border for tournaments or camps. He not only coaches, but Administratively is involved in fundraising, organizing events, jamborees, inter-league and inter-provincial play, and cross border play. His passion for football and nurturing & developing youth, and for his involvement in the community is ....
