(Photo Provided) CHARLESTON State officials Monday encouraged unvaccinated residents to step up like the generation of Americans during World War II and get immunized against COVID-19. James Hoyer, director of the Joint Interagency Task Force on Vaccine and the retired general of the West Virginia National Guard, referenced the sacrifices made by the Greatest Generation during World War II and pointed out that in the last 14 months, 160,000 more people died from the coronavirus than all the Americans killed during the war in four years. Dave Archer believes he would have exceeded 108.5 mph last week, but a head wind kept him to just above 100 mph last weekend at the East Coast Timing Association runs at Blytheville, Ark. (Photo Provided) CHARLESTON West Virginia will lift its mask mandate on June 20, the state’s birthday, as the target levels for vaccinations are reached, the governor said on Friday. Sixty-five percent of the state’s population 12 years old and older should have received one or both shots by June 20, enabling the mask mandate to be lifted, Gov. [email protected] PARKERSBURG A rise in overdoses in the past year could be an unintended consequence during the pandemic, state attorney general Patrick Morrisey said Thursday. Anecdotal information suggests overdoses from prescription drugs and other drugs has soared since the pandemic began a year ago, he said. Reasons vary among different people, but can be due to the impacts from isolation, or not seeing the relevant health care provider or financial problems caused by not being employed because of the response to contain the COVID-19 coronavirus, according to Morrisey. The problems can lead to other addictive habits, he said. ....
