PERTH, Australia (BUSINESS WIRE) A clinical research collaboration on COVID-19 pheno-conversion and subsequent pheno-reversion has discovered transient and persistent systemic changes of the molecular signatures in patient blood samples three months after the acute COVID-19 disease phase. These biochemical abnormalities, identified by a quantitative, label-free assay platform integrating nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and mass spectrometry (MS), relate to ongoing ‘long COVID’ symptoms, which persist post-acute infection and can affect more than half of the recovered COVID patients - even six months after infection.

More than half of COVID-19 cases continue to suffer from COVID-19 symptoms six months on from their infection, according to a new study.
Scientists at Murdoch University in Perth found that these symptoms, known as Long COVID , linger in 57 percent of COVID-19 patients.
The symptoms include chronic fatigue, muscle and joint pain and loss of sense of smell.
Researchers investigated the blood chemistry of people who suffered COVID-19 three months prior. They found persistent systematic changes that related to the ongoing COVID-19 symptoms.

Long-term biochemical impacts from Covid-19 even among mild cases have been discovered in more than half those who get the virus.
A small study of people who got mild cases of Covid-19 in Australia has found some had blood biochemical abnormalities and more than half experienced symptoms six months after being infected.
