Marietta DORA awaits mayor s signature | News, Sports, Jobs

From staff reports The Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) designation was passed in a 6-1 vote by the Public Lands, Buildings and Parks committee of Marietta City Council Thursday. With the DORA designation, open to-go drinks can be sold at bars and restaurants if they are in DORA cups. There will be a DORA grid in Downtown Marietta where the drinks are permitted with specific waste containers and signs that show the DORA boundaries. Jennifer Starkey, Marietta City Council clerk, said the DORA designation has an emergency clause, so when Mayor Josh Schlicher signs the designation, it will go into effect immediately.

Council concludes 2020 year | News, Sports, Jobs

jpatterson@mariettatimes.com Marietta City Council concluded 2020’s work Wednesday with a special business meeting via teleconference, wrapping up final finance needs and ratifying the next three years of unionized fire protection for the city. Ordinances 158 and 159 were introduced before a full legislative body, the first a financial exercise used to maintain compliance with state expectations to balance the books at the close of any given year and the second to ratify the next three years of a contract with the International Association of Fire Fighters. Ordinance 158 backed out funds, called unappropration, to prevent being over appropriated for projects and expenditures that did not take place in 2020 which would flag an issue in annual auditing.

Feeding Fluvanna helps those in need – Fluvanna Review

Submitted by Dave Wirth Feeding Fluvanna began in 2017 by a group of people from Grace and Glory Lutheran Church. It is a county wide event to collect food and monetary donations to assist Fluvanna Christian Service Society (FCSS) and the Monticello Area Community Action Agency (MACAA), who work together to manage the local food bank based at the Carysbrook Complex. Our first year the project began simply enough: host a food drive to support our local food bank. As our team began discussing how to make it a success, our project quickly grew into a community-wide event, bringing together 11 local churches eager to share our mission. Working side-by-side with other congregations and local civic groups that heard about our plan, we learned the true meaning of community. Many of us had neighbors in our county that needed help feeding their families and we were determined to help them out.
