Bowman named Deputy Secretary of Administration

One of Carroll County’s own has earned a post in the administraton of Virginia’s Governor Ralph Northam. Jessica Bowman was appointed on January 22 as Deputy Secretary of Administration.
”I’m thankful to Governor Northam and Secretary Johnson for the opportunity to expand my portfolio and continue my service to the citizens of the Commonwealth,” said Bowman.
Since 2018, Bowman served as the Chief Deputy Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Elections, previously worked as a Government Relations Manager at Williams Mullen, and served as Chief of Staff to then-Delegate, now-Senator Lynwood Lewis.
Prior to that, she served as a campaign consultant in Hampton Roads. Bowman grew up in Carroll County and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Christopher Newport University. ....

Forever Chemicals Must Be Regulated as a Class

To protect the health of people, communities and the environment, the toxic fluorinated “forever chemicals” known as PFAS should not be regulated one by one but as a class, more than a dozen scientists, including this author, argue in an article published today in the peer-reviewed journal Environmental Science & Technology Letters.
The article follows an earlier study by the same group of U.S. and international scientists, as well as a study by other researchers , who called for managing PFAS as a chemical class. After those studies were published, researchers affiliated with the PFAS manufacturer Honeywell International published a commentary arguing that the chemicals their company produces should not be subject to the same level of regulatory scrutiny as other PFAS. ....

The Wonder Book staff doesn’t pry too much into which objective a particular client is after. If an order were to come in for, say, 12 feet of books about politics, specifically with a progressive or liberal tilt as one did in August Wonder Book’s manager, Jessica Bowman, would simply send one of her more politics-savvy staffers to the enormous box labeled “Politically Incorrect” (the name of Books by the Foot’s politics package) to select about 120 books by authors like Hillary Clinton, Bill Maher, Al Franken and Bob Woodward.
