ACLU files motion to dismiss lawsuit that limited ICE protests outside DeGise home

“This case is about the people’s right to speak and protest against a government policy. Our clients were using public sidewalks to express themselves and should be subject to the same laws as everyone else who uses them,” ACLU-NJ Legal Director Jeanne LoCicero said in a statement early this afternoon.
“These officials went to court to insulate themselves from opposing views. It’s not just a misuse of public resources, it’s also unconstitutional.”
The December 8th temporary restraining order, granted by Hudson County Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Jablonski – who has since become the county assignment judge – included a number of specific parameters if protests were to continue, as HCV first reported. ....

Kearny 2nd Ward council challenger Alexis Campos will do a write-in campaign for the June 8th Democratic primary after Hudson County Superior Court Assignment Judge Jeffrey Jablonski removed her from the ballot following a residency challenge.

The Kearny Democratic Organization, chaired by Mayor Al Santos, filed a challenge of Campos’ residency on April 9th, since voter records showed she lived in the 3rd Ward when she voted in the November 2020 election, Town Clerk Patricia Carpenter said in a court certified statement. ....

Lawsuits pile up as the fight over Bayonne Medical Center continues

On March 3, Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Jablonski rejected a motion filed by CarePoint Health against Dr. Nizar Kifaieh, CEO of Hudson Regional Hospital (HRH), to prevent him from speaking against CarePoint, where he previously held several senior roles.
The judgment marks another development in litigation between the entities battling over Bayonne Medical Center.

CarePoint Health is dissolving and has been selling its assets, including Bayonne Medical Center, Hoboken University Medical Center, and Christ Hospital in Jersey City. ....

Bariso, the assignment judge since February 2012, is calling it career on April 1st and will be succeeded by fellow Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Jablonski.
While Bariso, first appointed by then-Acting Gov. Richard Codey in 2005, has heard hundreds, possible over a thousand cases, in his long career there are two in particular that left a lasting impact: a jury trial involving the Jews Offering New Alternatives for Healing (JONAH) and the state vs. JLG.
“The JONAH case involved a lot of research regarding the issue of same sex attractions and whether or not it was a mental disorder or not … One of the first trials I had that had interesting jury selection issues,” he told HCV. ....
