By Jeff Yoder It was a rough Monday night for Myah Lugar and the Mid-Prairie offense. But by Tuesday, those struggles were forgotten. The Golden Hawks opened up an early double-digit lead and held off a late Rebel run for a 50-34 victory, taking a winning record into the winter break. After scoring just two points at West Liberty on Monday, Lugar had 11 during Mid-Prairie’s 16-4 run to open the game. “I think just being strong with the ball was a big factor,” Lugar said, “and also just working the ball inside and outside because that opened it up for both parts of the offense.” ....

Sarah Meader won her second tournament title of the season, for Browyn Brenneman it was a first. “This is (Brenneman’s) first year wrestling and she looked pretty good,” said Mid-Prairie wrestling coach Dylan Walther, who was in Wilton with the girls on Saturday. “On Monday, she wrestled a girl that got fourth at state last year. It wasn’t that close by looking at the scoreboard but she was aggressive and just made a couple mistakes that made the margin pretty wide but she fought and battled and competed the whole match. ....
By Jeff Yoder Going two weeks without a game or a practice isn’t ideal for any basketball team, but it was especially problematic for a Lone Tree team looking to replace all five starters this year. While the Lions were playing a season opener on Thursday, Keota brought a six-game winning streak to Lone Tree. The Lions trailed just 10-6 as the final seconds of the first quarter ticked off, but a buzzer-beating three started a 12-0 run for Keota, who went on to win 61-34. “Keota has got a nice team. But I think you can tell that we were only on five days of practice,” Lone Tree coach Tom Squiers said. ....
