Date With History explores 'Road to Victory During the Persian Gulf War' Aug. 5

On Thursday, Aug. 5, learn about the museum exhibit, This Will Not Stand: The U.S. Army s Road to Victory During the Persian Gulf War, during the next virtual Date With History from 7 to 8:15 p.m. This Zoom event is free but registration is required at fdmuseum.org.
This exhibition at the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center in Carlisle, Penn., opened last November and continues until August 2023. The exhibit s curator, Molly Bompane, will discuss the exhibit s development, significance and historical context. Bompane is joined by Jeff Hawks, the education director from the Army Heritage Center Foundation. Hawks not only brings his experience as an educator to the conversation, but his perspective as a veteran of the Gulf War. ....

Former Republican congressional candidate Christine Quinn is suing the local Community Patriots group and two of its members, saying they failed to repay her for expenses of traveling to Washington for the Jan. 6 Trump rally which preceded the invasion of the Capitol.
Quinn, a Trump backer who ran against Rep. Kathy Castor, D-Tampa, in 2016 and 2020, has filed a claim for $3,709.97, naming the Patriots organization, its leader Jeff Hawks and backer Scott Courtney as defendants. ....

Racial strife has brought national attention to the Tampa Bay suburb of New Port Richey and now activists fear their voices are being silenced. Proposed rule changes to city meetings and a rash of death threats have some feeling the First Amendment is under fire in Pasco County.

A New Port Richey City Council meeting turned violent Tuesday when a Black Lives Matter activist was attacked outside of City Hall. One arrest was made after tensions between activists and a group called “community patriots” went from the council chambers to the parking lot.

The confrontation at Tuesday’s meeting boiled over from an exchange between mayor Rob Marlowe and Black Lives Matter Pasco founder Christina Boneta at a meeting earlier in the month.
