Pa. woman may have been victim of serial killer, authorities say

Harold David Haulman III, 43, was arrested Friday for the murder of 25-year-old Tianna Phillips, who went missing in 2018. Haulman was charged as he walked in for a hearing in a December homicide case where he is charged with murdering Erica Shultz, 26, of Bloomsburg. In addition to those cases, investigators are also looking into his possible involvement in a 16-year-old homicide case in Michigan. ....

Community college attracts a growing TikTok following


“Most of my videos have been on my personal educational journey,” she said. “I think it’s really put a lot of ideas in people’s head that they can really pursue goals and go to community college and be successful.”
The platform is a good place to reach traditional-age students, especially women, said Jamie Wagner, executive director of Media Prefs, an arm of Interact Communications, a marketing firm for two-year colleges. The firm surveys students about their social media habits to help community colleges target advertising to prospective students.
A Media Prefs survey of about 62,000 college students across 37 states this academic year found that TikTok was the fourth most popular social media platform, outranking Twitter and Snapchat. But among women ages 18 to 20, TikTok was especially popular. The site jumped from their fifth-favorite platform last spring to their most favorite platform this year. ....

Historic cemeteries garner increased attention


JOHNS CREEK, Ga. — The Johns Creek Historical Society announced this month that it has had 12 headstones and several footstones repaired and reset as part of an ongoing effort to restore the Macedonia African Methodist Church Cemetery.
The work comes with the help of a volunteer effort through Leadership Johns Creek, a local nonprofit that promotes community involvement.
The cemetery, near the intersection of State Bridge and Medlock Bridge roads, is known to be the burial place of at least two who were enslaved and others who were first and second generation descendants of slaves on local farms. The cemetery, abandoned for years, has garnered attention in recent years from the city and the Historic Society. ....

For the second time in less than a year, Washington’s Corrections Ombuds (OCO) is warning that the state’s prison system needs to do more to prevent inmate suicides.
In a 15-page investigation released Monday, the OCO found that two inmates died by suicide in 2020 after prison staff failed to recognize signs of mental distress and didn’t follow suicide prevention policies.
“Suicides are preventable. There should be zero, that should be the goal” said Assistant Ombuds Dr. Patricia David, the investigation’s author and the OCO’s Director of Patient Safety and Performance Review. ....
