Mrs Charles on the day she celebrated her 100th birthday (Photo: Jude Morel) Simone Charles, the mother of former President James Michel, celebrated her 100 th birthday on Saturday in the presence of her family and friends in a special mass at the St Elizabeth Chapel. Mrs Charles, who has nine children – 2 daughters and 7 sons – has spent most of her life residing at English River where she is known by many people as Mrs Michel or Granny. The mass was presided over by Deacon Louis Agathine, a family friend, who shared anecdotes about Mrs Charles and her children. During the service Mrs Charles received gift hampers from various governmental departments including the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs, which was presented to her by Dan Frichot, special advisor for the local government department, who passed on birthday wishes from Minister Rose-Marie Hoareau. ....
Aaron Pool is the overall winner of the Positive Youth Image Award 2019. This was announced in a ceremony held at the Chilli Bar, La Louise, on Friday evening. The event was attended by the Minister for Youth, Sports and Family, Marie-Celine Zialor; principal secretary for youth and sports Fabian Palmyre; chief executive of the Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC) Penny Belmont; youth workers and the awardees themselves. A total of 51 youths were awarded in four different categories – secondary schools, post-secondary institutions, youths at district level and youths from affiliated groups. They were all recognised for their positive contributions and differences they make in their respective schools and communities. ....
