Man gets 15 years Eastern District Court for gun, sex offenses Staff reports Firearm and sex offenses land a Plano man in the Eastern District of Texas courts this week. Wayne Edward Bearden, 40, pleaded guilty on Dec. 4, 2019 to being a felon in possession of firearms and to coercion, enticement and aiding and abetting. He was sentenced to a total term of imprisonment of 180 months by U.S. District Judge Amos L. Mazzant this week. “Today’s sentence takes a dangerous man off the street, and will bring a measure of closure and comfort to those he victimized,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei in a news release. “While this case began as a firearms investigation, due the excellent work of our federal and local law enforcement partners we were able to uncover – and dismantle – a commercial sex trafficking operation.” ....
Almost £90,000 has been awarded to ensure that hundreds of children from across the county have been able to learn from home. Cumbria Community Foundation awarded the money to ten schools from various funds, including the Mary Grave Trust, the Printers Inc Social Mobility Fund and the Westmorland Family Community Fund, to provide IT equipment to more than 300 children and young people to help them learn remotely. An Aspatria school has received a donation of 50 laptops. Last week, the Mark Masons delivered the devices to the Beacon Hill Community School in the presence of Judith Shafer. A county-wide campaign run by Cumbria Alliance of System Leaders (CASL) which aims to supply technology to children who are lacking the necessary means to attend their online lessons is ongoing. Set up by Judith Schafer, the campaign set a target of obtaining approximately 1500 devices in a bid to plug the gap with the Government’s vow to supply the technology experiencing delays over the past month. Mrs Schafer, who is also the head of Solway Community College, previously stated: “Without the right ICT equipment at home it’s so hard for pupils to engage in home learning. Working from a smartphone or tablet is really difficult and means pupils struggle to engage. ....

The equipment will help teaching to be carried out remotely as lesson remain virtual for most pupils. The Mary Grave Trust would normally have supported young people travelling abroad through educational or youth group trips, work experience or gap year activities.
