Cumbrian schoolchildren benefit from Cumbria Community Foundation IT grants

Almost £90,000 has been awarded to ensure that hundreds of children from across the county have been able to learn from home.
Cumbria Community Foundation awarded the money to ten schools from various funds, including the Mary Grave Trust, the Printers Inc Social Mobility Fund and the Westmorland Family Community Fund, to provide IT equipment to more than 300 children and young people to help them learn remotely.
Judith Schafer, chair of Cumbria Alliance of System Leaders, said: “The Cumbria Alliance of System Leaders launched a laptop for schools project in January to try and get IT kit to children who need it during the current lockdown. ....

Aspatria school receives laptops donation

An Aspatria school has received a donation of 50 laptops.
Last week, the Mark Masons delivered the devices to the Beacon Hill Community School in the presence of Judith Shafer.
A county-wide campaign run by Cumbria Alliance of System Leaders (CASL) which aims to supply technology to children who are lacking the necessary means to attend their online lessons is ongoing.
Set up by Judith Schafer, the campaign set a target of obtaining approximately 1500 devices in a bid to plug the gap with the Government’s vow to supply the technology experiencing delays over the past month.
Mrs Schafer, who is also the head of Solway Community College, previously stated: “Without the right ICT equipment at home it’s so hard for pupils to engage in home learning. Working from a smartphone or tablet is really difficult and means pupils struggle to engage. ....

Almost Â£90,000 to fund equipment for more than 300 youngsters

Almost Â£90,000 has been awarded to provide IT equipment to more than 300 children and young people across Cumbria.
The equipment will help teaching to be carried out remotely as lesson remain virtual for most pupils.
Cumbria Community Foundation awarded the money to ten schools from various funds, including the Mary Grave Trust, the Printers Inc Social Mobility Fund and the Westmorland Family Community Fund.
The Mary Grave Trust would normally have supported young people travelling abroad through educational or youth group trips, work experience or gap year activities. Due to the current travel restrictions, the Foundation has instead used this funding to help young people study from home. ....
