Sharon Schools will increase classroom instruction starting April 5

Sharon The School Committee voted 6-0-1 at its Feb. 24 meeting for elementary school students to return to in-person instruction beginning Monday, April 5 while grappling with a projected $1.2 million budgetary shortfall.
The motion called for transitioning learning models beginning on Aril 1 and deferring responsibility for this transition to Acting Superintendent Meg Dussault to plan and execute its implementation the methods to accomplish transition. Member Heather Zelevinsky abstained after having offered a friendly amendment to make sure that those who are in remote learning could continue in this direction unless DESE does not allow it. Members said it was their understanding that DESE would allow this to continue, so there was no need for the amendment. ....

Sharon School Committee holds forum letting residents share instances of racial discrimination

After several recent incidents of allegations of racial intolerance directed at the Sharon School Committee and Sharon Public School teachers, the committee held a two-hour listening session for people to express their personal experiences and to educate community members on how these events have affected them and their children.
Broadcast on Sharon’s public access cable station and held via the Zoom platform to encourage public participation, 87 residents shared their experiences. School Committee chair Judy Crosby moderated the meeting, which was also attended by other School Committee members. ....
