Carl Earl Wiggins, 49, led authorities on a high-speed car chase down I-40 on June 23, according to ABC 11. The incident started when Four Oaks police in Johnston County noticed the 2003 Ford Excursion matched the description of a vehicle reported stolen in Bladen County on June 17. Husband wanted for questioning in disappearance of North Carolina woman arrested on felony larceny charges following multi-county car chase Andrea Cavallier © Provided by NBC News Three weeks have passed since Kiara Wiggins, 39, was last seen on June 9, 2021, at the Roseboro, North Carolina home she shares with her husband of 12 years, Carl Earl Higgins. She’s still missing and her family is still without answers. Her husband, who police wanted to interview regarding Kiara’s disappearance, was arrested on June 23 following a multi-county car chase on unrelated charges of allegedly stealing a car. Sampson County Sheriff Jimmy Thornton told NBC affiliate WRAL that last week’s arrest of Carl Wiggins is just the beginning of his investigation, adding it also means authorities are one step closer to finding Kiara.

Clinton man arrested in shooting of Sampson County detention officer

CLINTON A Clinton man was arrested Tuesday in the shooting of a Sampson County jail employee on her lunch break, according to a news release from the county s Sheriff s Office. Jahleek Joyner, of 93 Water House Circle, is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and possession of a firearm by felon in the shooting of Zarya Ashley, 21, a detention officer with the Sampson County Sheriff s Office, the release said. Deputies were called to Joyner s home at 1 p.m. where they found Ashley laying critically injured on the ground outside the home with an apparent gunshot wound, the release said.
