Remembering Sangat Centre and Keighley leader Ghulam Rabani | Bradford Telegraph and Argus

Mr Rabani worked in Bradford s textile industry for many years before his voluntary role at the Sangat Centre, which opened in 1991, became a full time job and life-long passion.
From helping hundreds access a British citizenship course to a men s mental health project, the centre manager worked with the elderly community and was a beacon of support for many in the Asian community.

He has always been a pillar of the community, his colleagues at the Sangat Centre told the T&A.

Bradford faith leaders look to the future as 'remote worship' continues

FAITH leaders from the Bradford district have spoken of how the pandemic has changed the way they operate, while also looking ahead to the impact that it may have on the future.
Online events have been the only means of survival for many of the district s churches, mosques, gurdwaras and temples, while questions have been raised over how worship will look post-pandemic.
Reverend Nathan Javed, of GBM Churches, said that the shift towards digital worship is making churches look for new ways to engage with local communities, but added that everyone is praying for a return to normality, where worshippers can attend services in person again. ....

Bradford faith leaders urge people to get the COVID-19 vaccine

A BRADFORD organisation is running a campaign alongside the district s different faith communities to encourage people to take the COVID-19 vaccine.
The Volunteering Interfaith Programme (VIP) is joining leaders from Bradford s Christian, Hindu, Muslim and Sikh communities, as the vaccine - which has now been taken by over two million people in the UK - continues to be rolled out.
VIP founder, Dr Javed Bashir, says the campaign comes amid some groups raising questions over the ethics of vaccination, and will involve faith leaders talking to members of the community and producing video messages encouraging people to take it.
The vaccine has been widely cheered as marking the beginning of the end of the pandemic. With vaccines on the horizon, faith leaders could play a crucial role in promoting their use , Dr Bashir said. ....

University of Bradford emergency COVID-19 fund raises over £10,000 to support struggling students

A UNIVERSITY of Bradford fund set up to support students who are struggling amid the pandemic has now raised over £10,000.
The Emergency COVID-19 Hardship Appeal reached the milestone - just a month after its launch - after a number of generous donations from alumni, staff and members of the community.
Money raised will be used to support some of the poorest students, many of whom have little or no means of income other than working part-time - something many have been unable to do during lockdown.
The news comes as volunteers from Bradford-based organisation the VIP (Volunteering Interfaith Programme) gave up their time and even spent their own money to launch a meal giveaway to students. ....

She said: He was a lovely guy, he was a joy.
I put him forward as Lord Mayor and was so happy to serve as his deputy.
He was so lovely, he has a lovely wife and a lovely family and he was a really good friend to me.
I always felt like part of his family, he always made you feel welcome and I m really upset by this, it s so shocking I still can t believe its true.
I thought he was starting to get better; it s a shock.
He will be truly missed, I went to Pakistan with him last year and it was such a good time, we laughed every day. ....
