Veridian Credit Union opens newest branch in Ankeny

Veridian Credit Union announced today the opening of its newest branch in Ankeny, its 10th in the Des Moines metro area and 30th across Iowa and eastern Nebraska. Located at 2180 N. Ankeny Blvd., the newly constructed 4,200-square-foot Georgetown Branch has eight employees, with six teller stations and offices for business, mortgage and other consumer lending. “We have a long history with our members in Ankeny,” said branch manager Brandon Schares. “We’re excited to be growing with our community.” Self-serve conveniences include a coin machine and safe deposit boxes with biometric access. A historical look at the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad in Bethesda

In 1873, the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad opened its new Metropolitan Branch, a modern rail line running straight through the heart of Montgomery County. Towns such as Gaithersburg, Rockville and Silver Spring, all selected as stops on the new line, saw prosperity come in tow, with shops and homes rising around stylish new passenger stations. When the train finally reached Bethesda decades later, all it brought was industrial blight.
Originally, the Metropolitan Branch ran too far east to have any impact on Bethesda’s development. The village of the 1870s remained little more than a general store, a blacksmith shop and a handful of houses gathered around the crossroads of Wisconsin Avenue and Old Georgetown Road. ....

When the Chevy Chase Land Company started developing land north of Rock Creek Park in 1890, it built a streetcar to connect to Washington, DC. That streetcar line ended at Chevy Chase Lake on Connecticut Avenue, just south of the Georgetown Branch, where a small building on the west side served as a waiting station and office. ....
