Donations flood in for Mary Stevens Hospice in memory of Kate

FUNDRAISERS held in memory of an inspirational Stourbridge woman have raised an incredible £17,000 for Stourbridge s Mary Stevens Hospice where she spent her final days. Kate Turner (nee Winning), aged 47, passed away at the hospice on December 1 after a re-occurrence of the acute myeloid leukaemia that she had so bravely and successfully battled as a young woman more than 20 years ago. Much-loved Kate courageously fought a three-year battle against the deadly disease in the late 1990s during which she endured chemotherapy, radiotherapy, a bone marrow transplant thanks to sister Sarah, then a second ground-breaking transplant of stem cells after a relapse.

Martin Sylvester died aged 63 last June after a five-year fight with the cancer. The much-loved grandad was treated at the Georgina Unit at Russells Hall Hospital for much of that time, before being transferred to the QE. The family wanted to say thank you to the hospital for caring for him and grandchildren Harriet and Milo Todd, aged five and ten and Nancy, Megan and Jude Mcfarlane, aged six, ten and 11, have just completed an ambitious walking fundraiser. They walked two and a half million steps during Lent and have already smashed their £1k target with the total standing at £2,255 for their fundraiser called 5 Go Walking on JustGiving at www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/5gowalking?utm term
