This spring, the Lightner Museum in St. Augustine celebrates the evocative, timeless beauty of late 19th and early 20th century American art with two exhibitions of American Impressionist paintings.
American Impressionism: Treasures from the Daywood Collection, features paintings from the acclaimed collection of the Huntington Museum of Art in West Virginia. A companion exhibition, 
St. Augustine in a New Light: American Impressionism from the Collection of the Lightner Museum is curated from the Lightner’s own collection. The exhibitions will run from April 8, 2021-July 5, 2021.
American Impressionism: Treasures from the Daywood Collection showcases work from a transitional time in American art when painters abandoned the rigors of academic styles and subjects. Inspired by their European counterparts, they turned to intimate scenes of the cultivated coun ....

Americans are fascinated with unsolved historical mysteries. Today, for example, many thousands are trying to find out more about the Melungeons.
The Melungeons are both a regional and a national mystery. Historically, they were mountain people, but they were dark-skinned and did not resemble their Appalachian neighbors of Anglo-Saxon, Scotch-Irish or even German descent. They resembled Indians in some ways, but they had other physical characteristics that suggested a mixture of many races. Many had black hair, blue eyes and Mediterranean features, but others, like Deutsia Huntoon, the fair heroine of Jesse Stuart’s novel Daughter of the Legend, were blond. ....

There is no example in American history of a U.S. president inciting violence against American institutions or fellow citizens in the manner that President Donald Trump seemingly did on Jan. 6 when an angry mob stormed the U.S. Capitol, according to a historian at The Catholic University of America.
There is, of course, the War of 1812 when British troops burned the White House and attacked the capitol building, but that isn t an equal comparison for Michael Kimmage, a professor of history who served on the U.S. Department of State Policy Planning staff as a Franklin Fellow from 2014 to 2016. ....
