Staff report Altrusa International of Branch County was recently honored with the Distinguished Club Award from District Five Altrusa. It recognizes clubs that demonstrate a high degree of excellence based on a set of guidelines developed by Altrusa International. The list includes leadership in the community, community service, scholarships, leadership development, sponsorship of an ASTRA Club, fund-raising, budget management, attendance, a club newsletter and yearbook. Branch County Altrusa has received this award on several occasions over the years, said Jan Storrs, club member. Altrusa International of Branch County is a part of a 104 years old organization with 307 clubs in 14 districts and eight countries with 7,086 members. District Five has 620 members in 25 clubs from Michigan and Ohio. ....
Julie Stratos has been a leader in Branch County for decades. Along with her successful career, Stratos was a member of Altrusa of Branch County. Over the years, her leadership was recognized and in 2021 she became the Governor of Altrusa District Five. Many Branch County club members have served in capacities at the district level, but Stratos is the first to become governor. “Julie has been serving as governor elect for the past two years to ready herself for the position,” said Jan Storrs, Altrusa leader. For years, Stratos was the marketing director for the Community Health Center of Branch County, now ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital. She coordinated the Women’s Health Fest, was an adjunct instructor for Kellogg Community College, on the Coldwater Downtown Development Board and helped facilitate several local non-profits including Branch County United Way, Tibbits Opera House, Branch County Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence, the ....
The Daily Reporter Michael Richer and Kaylea Veysey, ASTRA Club members at Quincy High School, each received a $750 scholarship from Altrusa International of Branch County for their dedication to ASTRA during the past four years. Both students were part of a group that helped to start the community service program at Quincy High School, said Jan Storrs, Altrusa member. During their four years in high school, they volunteered at Walk-A-Mile, United We Read, Gowns for Gals/Ties for Guys, Quincy Community trick-or-treat and the safe treat-or-treat program, Quincy Rotary pork-chop barbecue, Kits of Comfort drive, Christmas gift-wrapping and Coin Wars, among other projects. ....
The Daily Reporter Christine Delaney was recently awarded the Elizabeth Powelson Award for Career Achievement by Altrusa International District Five. Delaney was honored for her work as executive director of Tibbits Opera House for the past 19 years. She has taken the theater to great heights and is receiving national recognition, according to Altrusa. She oversees Tibbits operations, fundraising, programming and preservation of the historic theater. Tibbits, built in 1882, it is the second-oldest operating theater in Michigan. Delaney led the organization through a $3.5 million capital campaign and three phases of restoratio,n including an award-winning restoration of the theater’s historic exterior. ....
