That was the question we posed to readers approximately 200 people responded with tributes to the loved ones they lost, celebrations of the passions they found and reflections on trying to survive this strange and difficult time. She was jogging on Jan. 4 last year when a car speeding north on Masonic Avenue blew through a red light, hit another car and careened into the park straight at her. She flew 30 feet, landing with a thud. She assumed she was seconds from death but remembers thinking, “OK, I lived.”

There are plan designs that decrease the risk and volatility for plan sponsors, and defined benefit plans offer the guaranteed lifetime income participants desire. Reported by Art by Camilla Zaza Over the years, the retirement plan industry has introduced new features for defined contribution (DC) plans to mimic the advantages participants received from defined benefit (DB) plans. It seems that although DB plan sponsors have been eliminating or offloading their obligations, the industry has recognized the benefits of a plan design in which  employees automatically participate and receive guaranteed payments for life.
