Chelmsford Town Meeting may face delay to allow for reps' vaccinations

If coronavirus trends allow, Kurland said Town Meeting could take place at the Chelmsford High School gymnasium, where Town Meeting was held last year.
I believe the students will no longer be attending school regularly, so if we have a second or third session, it will not be a major problem for the staff or schools, Kurland said.
Timing concerns
Spring Town Meeting normally begins the last Monday in April.
Kurland said he will consider moving Town Meeting to an earlier date, after Select Board member Virginia Crocker Timmins raised concerns about timing.
I understand why we delayed until the end of June last year, Timmins said. I m just wondering if it would be worth looking at an interim date, potentially May, and if that doesn t pan out, then go to the end of June. ....

NOAA Fisheries to Hold Public Hearings on Proposed Critical Habitat for Ringed and Bearded Seals

NOAA Fisheries will hold three public hearings on proposed rules to designate critical habitat in U.S. waters off the coast of Alaska for Arctic ringed seals and the Beringia distinct population segment of bearded seals under the Endangered Species Act.
NOAA Fisheries opened a 60-day public comment period on the proposed rules when they were published in the Federal Register on January 8, 2021. The proposed critical habitat in the northern Bering, Chukchi, and Beaufort seas provides sea ice conditions that are essential for ringed and bearded seal pupping, nursing, basking, and molting, as well as primary prey resources to support these seals. For bearded seals, the proposed critical habitat also provides acoustic conditions that allow for effective communication for breeding purposes. ....

After being delayed for almost a decade, the federal government is moving forward with the process for designating critical habitat for two species of seal listed as threatened. What was supposed to be accomplished during the Obama administration has been dragged out by legal challenges.
The Bering, Chukchi and Beaufort Seas are home to a variety of marine mammals, including bearded seals and ringed seals. Though both species are in relative abundance, long-term projections forecast a threat to the once abundant sea ice that the seals live on. As a result, the species were listed as threatened in 2012 under the Endangered Species Act. ....
