A few days after the Oscars, Malmesbury residents turned out for their own awards ceremony to recognise the town’s citizens of the year. Four awards were up for grabs at last night s awards - Junior Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Organisation of the Year and Citizen of the Year. Hosting last night’s virtual event, Mayor of Malmesbury, Campbell Ritchie said: This year s awards have been dominated by our communities response to the Covid crisis. It has been great to be able to acknowledge those who have done so much to help others, to look after our town, to lift our spirits in these difficult days and raise our eyes to better times to come.

ONCE again Malmesbury residents will be decorating their windows to bring happiness to their neighbours during lockdown. Following the success of the Christmas light up, Jackie Peel on the Make Malmesbury “Even” Better, Facebook page, decided to keep people smiling by arranging a theme for the new year. The theme was inspired by a poem a local resident wrote and was named Hope Springs Eternal. Residents are encouraged to decorate their homes with flowers, colours, rainbows, hearts or anything that makes you smile. All decorations are being put up on January 16.
