Cisne High School held its graduation on Saturday, and Lauren Grace Conard and Jonah Taylor Church were honored as Valedictorian and Salutatorian. In addition, scholarships recipients for the Class of 2021 were recognized, and CHS says the total amount awarded in scholarships this year was $210,567.
Wayne City held its graduations yesterday. 37 students graduated from the high school, with Jaden Boyd, Madelyn Caudle, Jarrett Lewis, Adam Loker, Kalyn Merritt, and Kelcee Seymour earning co-Valedictorian. 39 graduated from the grade school, and Joel Beehn and Kylee Moore received awards for having a 4.0 GPA for the last seven quarters.
The Fairfield Public School District 112 Board of Education will meet tonight at 6 in the Center Street Boardroom. Superintendent Dr. Scott England is scheduled to give an update on the district cafeteria project, and he will also have the first reading of the FY21 Amended Budget. Fairfield Community High School held its annual Awards Day on Friday.  Over $650,000 was awarded to FCHS seniors.    Among the award recipients is  Jacob Britt and Noah McElravey, receiving the Puckett Foundation Scholarship, worth $12,000 each.  Winners of the Fairfield First Step Rotary Scholarships, worth $500 each, are Blake Pruitt, Brenna Freeman, Aaron Perez, Jacob Britt, Claire Kakac and Xavier Tullis.  Winning the Wayne County 4-H Foundation Scholarship, in the amount of $500 was Drew Barbee.  Winner of the Wayne County Farm Bureau Young Leaders Scholarship, worth $1000, was Callie Vaughan, with Casey Opell and Callie Vaughan winners of $750 scholarships each.  Winning the Fairfield Memorial Hospital Scholarship, worth $16,200 was Jaylynn Tucker.  A live stream of the awards event can be viewed on the FCHS Facebook page. ....

Illinois State Police say 18-year-old Fairfield resident Alexis Sargent was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Clay City Friday afternoon. Preliminary investigative details indicate she was northbound on South Main Street at U.S. 50 when she failed to stop at a stop sign. She was then struck by an eastbound car, driven by 53-year-old Olney resident William Goluba. Goluba and a passenger in Sargent’s car, a 14-year-old male from Fairfield, were taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Sargent was also taken to an area hospital, where she passed away.
The Greater Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce has announced Zurliene Enterprises as the 2021 Business of the Year. A three-generation family-owned-and-operated business in the farming sector, Zurliene Enterprises has served Wayne and surrounding counties for over 50 years. They will be honored at the annual Chamber Dinner, and more information on the dinner date will be announced in the future. ....
