Covid-19 (May 6) - 3,551 new cases, record number in ICUs Published Modified12:04 pm - COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 3,551 new Covid-19 cases amidst a sharp increase in Penang. The number of patients needing intensive care and ventilators reached a new record high. Malaysia has a finite number of ICU beds and ventilators. The number of active cases is also continuing to trend upwards. Active cases: 33,762 The Sarawak (391) and Kelantan (326). In Selangor, approximately one in four people who tested positive for Covid-19 are not linked to close contacts of Covid-19 positive patients nor could they be linked to existing clusters. KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 26): Malaysia’s new Covid-19 cases rose to 3,585 today, from 3,048 reported on Monday, marking the third straight day of cases staying above the 3,000 mark with 11 more deaths recorded. Among the new infections today, two were imported meaning they had contracted the virus from abroad while 3,583 were local transmissions, said health director-general (DG) Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. Dr Noor Hisham said among the locally transmitted cases, 3,053 or 85.2% involved Malaysians, while 530 or 14.8% were foreigners. This raised the cumulative Covid-19 infections to 190,434 from just 113,010 as at Dec 31, 2020. The 11 additional fatalities also pushed the coronavirus death toll to 700, according to his statement. ....

Leading indicators: Patients in ICU: 280 ↑ (19 more than the previous day) Intubated patients: 111 ↑ (10 more than the previous day) Deaths: 11 The Klang Valley reported the most number of new cases (54.3 percent) followed by Johor (14.6 percent) and Sabah (8.6 percent). In Selangor, 187 new cases were detected among individuals without symptoms and are not linked to existing clusters. This is relatively higher, considering that most states are reporting new cases in the double digits only. ....
