SERDANG: Electricity theft worth RM130,000 is believed to be the result of illegal bitcoin mining in six premises here.
Police seized 297 bitcoin mining machines after raiding the premises in Taman Damai Utama and Pusat Perdagangan Bandar Putra Permai between April 8 and 17.
Serdang deputy OCPD Supt Mohd Rosdi Daud said a police team along with Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) personnel raided three premises at Atmosphere 5, Pusat Perdagangan Bandar Putra Permai, at around 3pm on April 8.
“We arrested two Chinese nationals, a man and a woman, aged 32 and 38.
SERDANG: Police have seized 297 bitcoin mining machines and none blowers worth about RM100,00 after raiding several premises believed to be stealing electricity.
Serdang Deputy OCPD Supt Mohd Rosdi Daud said a team from the Serdang CID together with Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) personnel raided three premises at Atmosphere 5, Pusat Perdagangan Bandar Putra Permai around 3pm on April 8. We arrested two Chinese nationals, a man and a woman, aged 32 and 38. When we checked the premises, we found evidence of tampering with the electricity supply, he told reporters at Serdang police headquarters on Monday (April 19).
Supt Mohd Rosdi said the two foreigners had been hired to act as caretakers of the premises which were being used to house bitcoin mining operations.

The Sabah Local Government and Housing Minister said this as Sandakan district joins Tawau and Lahad Datu as MCO imposed districts, while the MCO in Keningau is set to end on Sunday (April 18) as scheduled.
“Kota Kinabalu appears to have stabilised with seven new cases on Saturday, and so there s no truth to the rumours of a MCO in Kota Kinabalu, ” he tweeted on Saturday (April 17).
Sabah recorded 163 new cases on Saturday, with Tawau contributing the highest figure at 95 cases, followed by Lahad Datu (25 cases) and Sandakan (13).
Masidi, in a press statement afterwards said two new clusters were reported in Tawau, which is the Bukit Quoin cluster with 11 cases and the Jalan Damai cluster with 14 cases.

In a statement, he said 11 of them were workplace clusters, while the remaining two were community clusters,
